I don’t know enough to know what questions to ask!
That’s o.k. – in fact that’s why we’re here. We specialize in reviewing your business objectives and guiding you through the process to develop a website that supports your goals and improves your business. Typically we will start by asking you what you want to achieve with a website, and the conversation just flows from there!
What is a domain name?
A domain name is your unique address on the Internet. You are the only one with that domain name and it can be viewed all over the world. Our domain name is "yepublishing.com".
What is a URL?
URL is the abbreviation for Universal Resource Locator. It is the more "formal" technical address of your website. Our URL is: http://www.yepublishing.com.
How do I choose a domain name?
You try to use the name of your company as your domain name because that is the first assumption of the user. You also try to get the .com as opposed to .net or any of the other alternatives, because people have become accustomed to .com. If your name has been taken, try for variations of that name, but keep the name as short as possible to avoid spelling errors and to make it easier to type your name. When you're ready, we can do all of this for you.
What is web hosting?
All websites reside (are “hosted”) on special computers (servers) which are always on and are connected to telecommunications lines all the time. In addition, these computers are able to “host” the numeric equivalent of your domain name (the IP address). When you host your website, you are basically renting space on the server and an IP address, enabling your site to be continuously available and accessible when a user types your domain name.
What is website maintenance?
Maintenance is the monthly upkeep of your site. Most good websites have new content updated regularly. Some examples include product changes, sales, menus. Fresh content is what will keep your visitors coming back.
How much do your websites cost?
We can tell you that our prices are very affordable and competitive however, because every website is different in size, functionality, and the information they provide, we cannot give an answer to this question online. For a free consultation call us at 914-962-1990 and we will be happy to meet with you to discuss your interests and needs. After hearing your desired specifications and requirements, we will provide you with a written budget and proposal for your project.
What types of websites are there? What is best for my business?
There are two basic types of websites: informational sites and e-commerce sites. The site that is best for your business depends on your objectives.

Your business can use an informational site to advertise your products or services, offer customer service information, keep your clients and associates updated on recent developments in your industry, or provide any other product or service information. An information site is most appropriate if your objectives include economizing on customer service expenses, providing additional details in support of your advertising, providing information or entertainment, letting your customers know about new products, etc.

E-commerce sites allow customers to purchase products online. If you have a product (or service) for sale, and you would like to offer it to a broader customer base, e-commerce is for you.

We will meet with you to discuss your goals and determine how you can use a website most effectively.
How long will it take to develop a website?
Our site development process takes anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the size and the complexity of the project .
What if I have a website, but want to give it a new look?
We do re-designs all the time. It is important to update as well as change your website every so often so as to keep your customers interested.
Who provides the content to go on the website?
We will design the website to best reflect your business. We will provide graphics, layout and colors to incorporate the products and/or services you are selling. You will provide your logo (or we can create one for an additional fee), photos of specific items and any text for your establishment that will be used on the site.
What about fancy design elements? Are they necessary?
Determining the design style that works best for your business is largely dependent on identifying your target audience and determining the elements most likely to appeal to them and to support your products. For many businesses (particularly for e-commerce sites) a simple, clean, straightforward design is most effective because you want your customers to complete a transaction.

Our staff is skilled in the use of the latest technologies (including Flash) and incorporating them in the most effective presentation for your purposes. We also have the marketing background to advise you on when not to use the “bells and whistles” if doing so will interfere with your business interests.
Can you build or host websites for clients outside the area?
We can work with clients all over the world. In fact, we have a few clients as far as the Caribbean.
Can we start with a small site and make it larger later?
Absolutely. It is better to have a small site available than to not have any web presence at all. Today the web is used as easily as the yellow pages was 15 years ago, and if your business is not online, it will not be found when a search is made.
Do you develop e-commerce sites?
Yes we do. We can build e-commerce sites that handle one product to sites that sell 5000 products or more. E-commerce sites include shopping carts and process credit card transactions on a secure server.
What if I have a website hosted elsewear but want to host with you?
We can move your site to our servers without a problem.
What is search engine registration and who does it?
Search engine registration or submission is the process of getting your website listed by the search engines (Google, Alta Vista, HotBot, Netscape Search, AOL Search, DirectHit, Lycos just to name a few), so that your site will be listed when someone types a keyword into a search engine. We will register you with several of the major search engines at no charge.
What is search engine optimization or SEO?
This a process for preparing your site to be listed by the search engines. At Yorktown e-publishing, we begin this process the moment we take you on as a client. A properly optimized website has well written page content and appropriate html tags including: alt tags, meta tags, title tags, and keywords. There are other factors involved that will get your site noticed and we will be happy to discuss them with you.
How can I tell if anyone has visited my website?
For a fee of $10 we will run an in depth report using our special "Web Trends" software for one month. Monthly usage reports are posted in a password-protected directory on your website and include information on the number of visitors to your site, the duration of visits, referring websites and much more.
How do I market my website?
Besides registration and optimization with the search engines, it is important to advertise your website. This can easily be done by including your web address on every piece of your stationery along with your mailing address and phone number. Advertisements in local papers, radio, giveaways, direct mail and cable TV are some other ways to market your site.
